Burning the Barge Festival The Bakar Tongkang Festival is one of the most iconic Chinese cultural traditions in Indonesia which is held every year in Bagansiapiapi, Riau. This ritual is carried out by burning a replica of a barge as a symbol of respect for the ancestors as well as a form of gratitude for the journey and life of the Chinese people who first arrived on the land of Bagansiapiapi.
